Headbanger's Land entrevista Marco Sneck (English below)

O tecladista finlandês Marco Sneck concedeu uma entrevista muito legal ao Headbanger's Land e falou um pouco sobre seu antigo trabalho com as bandas Kalmah, Poisonblack e também sobre seu trabalho atual com as bandas Afterworld e The Man-Eating Tree

HL - Marco, você fazia parte do Poisonblack desde a primeira formação, como você analisa a evolução dos álbuns que no começo eram algo mais Atmospheric/ Gothic e se transformou em algo mais seco/ heavy metal puro? E com qual fase você mais se identificou?

Marco Sneck - Sim, ainda me lembro como ontem, acho que foi em 2000, algo assim, quando Tarmo (baterista) me contatou sobre fazer os teclados para PB e tivemos uma reunião onde consegui o cd de músicas. Coisa boa. Naquela época, as músicas já estavam prontas e os planos para o primeiro álbum estavam definidos. Fizemos algumas turnês e em algum momento ficou claro que JP Leppäluoto, o cantor, estaria saindo e um novo cantor seria necessário. Quando Ville Laihiala assumiu os vocais e a formação mudou de outra forma também, tornou-se evidente que a música também teria mudanças. A mudança musical evoluiu naturalmente de álbum para álbum sob a orientação do compositor principal. Acho que todo álbum tem seus melhores momentos do PB. Pessoalmente, eu gosto do primeiro álbum como o melhor por sua atmosfera geral de captura e tem muitos tons que são brilhantes na mixagem.

HL - Existe a possibilidade de retorno do Poisonblack?

Marco Sneck - Existe a possibilidade do Poisonblack retornar de alguma forma, embora, neste estágio, eu não contasse com nenhuma música nova, por exemplo. Vamos esperar para ver se algo acontece no futuro.

HL - Gothic Metal Finlandês é realmente diferenciado, você fez e ainda faz parte de bandas gigantes, na sua opinião o que torna o metal finlandês tão diferente, ter esse ‘sentimento’ tão único?

Marco Sneck - as pessoas têm uma forte necessidade de cumprir a paixão e também uma visão de criar o próprio som a um nível de profissionalismo, então isso começa a atrair outras pessoas também. Além disso, o toque do norte ajuda um pouco!

HL - The Man-Eating Tree é uma ótima super banda, reunindo ex-integrantes da bandas que ouvi muito na minha vida como Vesa Ranta ex-Sentenced, Mikko Uusimaa ex-Reflexion, Heidi Määttä ex-Embraze e muitos outros. A banda está trabalhando em um novo material no momento?

Marco Sneck - A banda tem feito novas músicas e o processo ainda está em andamento. Existem algumas músicas ótimas e cativantes no caminho, tenho certeza. Vamos ver quando elas estarão prontos para serem lançados.

HL - Conte-me um pouco sobre seu tempo no Kalmah, outra banda gigante finlandesa

Marco Sneck - Minha primeira banda naquela época era algo como "black metal sinfônico" e outras bandas com as quais toquei ao longo do caminho eram com um estilo mais leve e com vocais limpos. Além disso, eu gostava bastante de coisas mais rápidas naquela época, algo como 2003 (bem, ainda são), então quando a oportunidade veio para me juntar à banda, não houve hesitação. foi uma boa temporada, 3 álbuns com ótimas pessoas. Foi bom implementar um tipo de "bodomishy kb-stuff" para o "Swamp metal" da banda.

6 - Você fez algumas apresentações com o Charon em 2003 (corrija-me se eu estiver errado, por favor), como foi para você fazer as apresentações com outra banda gigante de metal finlandes e gostaria de ter lançado um álbum com a banda?

Marco Sneck - Sim, eu toquei teclados ao vivo como músico de sessão, foi talvez entre o outono de 2004- primavera de 2005, difícil de lembrar. Havia uma grande quantidade de shows, então foi um tempo super legal com os caras. Se bem me lembro, sempre foi a idéia de fazer esses shows em primeiro lugar, então nada de falar em fazer álbuns. Claro, se houvesse uma chance, teria sido uma chance para mim. É sempre um prazer trabalhar com pessoas "chill-out".

7 - Conheci a banda Afterworld recentemente e ela não sai mais da minha playlist, conte-nos um pouco mais sobre essa grande banda para seus fãs brasileiros?

Marco Sneck - Quando eu tinha 20 anos me mudei de minha pequena cidade natal para uma cidade maior, e AW foi minha primeira banda em Oulu. A música é algo como heavy-metal poderoso, etc. O terceiro álbum está prestes a entrar no estágio de mixagem enquanto falamos e tem músicas realmente boas, então espere por isso e há mais playlists por vir! HL - Tem alguma banda brasileira que você ouve com frequência?

Marco Sneck - Eu não estou muito familiarizado, infelizmente, a coisa mais próxima deve ser assistir a vídeos de bateria de Aquiles Priester etc, coisas boas. Também coisas em que Andre Matos (rip) está nos vocais funcionam para mim, como Symfonia.

HL - Fale um pouco sobre suas memórias dos shows que você fez em São Paulo no Manifesto Bar com o Poisonblack?

Marco Sneck - Grandes viagens - Pessoas super amigáveis em geral e os fãs mais legais de todos os tempos! Estivemos lá algumas vezes e as experiências foram excelentes. Tudo estava bem organizado, a comida era incrível, o clube estava balançando e a recepção foi entusiasmante. Eu gostaria que houvesse mais shows para curtir ainda mais a cultura.

HL - Quero agradecer por esta entrevista, é uma honra para mim porque sou um grande fã do seu trabalho, espero que você volte ao Brasil quando essa pandemia passar e que possamos beber cerveja juntos. abraços, bro.

Finnish keyboardist Marco Sneck gave a very nice interview to Headbanger's Land and talked a little about his old work with bands Kalmah, Poisonblack and also about his current work with bands Afterworld and The Man-Eating Tree

HL - Marco, you were part of Poisonblack since the first formation, how do you analyze the evolution of the albums that in the beginning were something more atmospheric/ gothic and turned into something more dry / pure heavy metal? And which phase did you identify yourself with the most?

Marco Sneck - Yes, I still remember it like yesterday, I think it was 2000-something when Tarmo (drummer) contacted me about doing keyboards for PB and we had a meeting where I got the cd of songs. Good stuff.

At that time, the songs were quite ready and plan was set for the first album. We did some touring and at some point it was getting clear that JP Leppäluoto, the singer would be leaving and a new singer would be needed. As Ville Laihiala took over the vocals and lineup changed otherwise too, it became evident that music would also have changes. Musical change evolved naturally from album to album under the guidance of the main composer. I think every album has its top PB-moments. Personally I like the first album as the best for its overall capturing atmosphere and it has a lot of keys that are bright on the mix .

HL - Is there a possibility of a Poisonblack return?

Marco Sneck - There is a possibility for Poisonblack to return on some way, though at this stage, I wouldnt count on any new music for example. Lets wait and see if something happens in the future.

HL - Finnish Gothic Metal is really different, you did and are part of some giant bands, in your opinion what makes Finnish metal so different, to have this ‘feeling’ so unique?

Marco Sneck - people have this strong urge to fullfil the passion and also a vision to craft the own sound to a level of professionalism, then it starts to attract other people too. Also, the northern touch helps a bit!

HL - The man-eating tree is a great super band, bringing together ex-members of the band that I heard a lot during my life like Vesa Ranta ex-Sentenced, Mikko Uusimaa ex-Reflexion, Heidi Määttä ex-Embraze and many others. Is the band working on new material at the moment?

Marco Sneck - The band has been making new music and the process is still on the works. There are some great and catchy songs on the way I sure you. Lets see when they are ready to roll out.

HL - Tell me a little about your time at Kalmah, another giant Finnish band

Marco Sneck - My first ever band back in the days was something like "symphonic black metal" and other bands that I played with along the way were with lighter style and with clean vocals. Also I was quite fond with faster stuff at that time 2003-something (well, still are) so when the slot came to join the ranks, there was no hesitation. it was a good run, 3 albums with great people. It was nice to implement kind of bodomishy kb-stuff to the swamp metal of the band.

HL - You did some presentations with Charon in 2003 (correct me if I'm wrong, please), how was it for you to do the presentations with another giant Finnish metal band and would you like to have released an album with the band?

Marco Sneck - Yes, I did live keyboards as a session musician, was it maybe fall 2004- spring 2005, hard to remember. There were a big amount of gigs, so it was super nice time with the guys. If I recall correctly, it was always the idea to make those gigs at first place, so no talk of album making. Of course if there would have been a chance, it would have been a go for me. Its always a pleasure to work with chill-out persons

7 - I met the band Afterworld recently and it doesn't leave my playlist anymore, tell us a little more about this great band for your Brazilian fans?

Marco Sneck - When I was on my 20's I moved from my original small hometown to a bigger city, and AW was my first band then in Oulu. The music is something like powerish-heavy-metal etc. Third album is about to go to mixing stage as we speak and it has really good songs, so wait for it and there are more of playlist-hits to come! HL - Are there any Brazilian bands that you listen to frequently?

Marco Sneck - I am not too familiar I'm afraid, the closest thing must be to watch Aquiles Priesters drum videos etc, good stuff. Also stuff where Andre Matos(rip) is on vocals works for me, like Symfonia.

HL - Tell me a little about your memories of the shows you did in São Paulo at Manifesto Bar with Poisonblack?

Marco Sneck - Great trips - Super friendly people overall and the nicest fans ever! We were there a couple of times and experiences were just great. Everything was well organised, food was awesome, the club was rocking and reception was enthustiatic.

I wish there had been more shows to enjoy the culture even further.

HL - I want to thank you for this interview, it is a great one for me because I am a big fan of your work, I hope you will return to Brazil when this pandemic passes and we can drink beers together. hugs, bro

Marco Sneck - Thank you for the good questions. It was nice to remember good old times also! I too hope the current situation of the world to normalise and to be able to do shows. If theres a change to play in brazil in the future, we'll surely grab some beers - Take care!
