O Amorphis apresenta seu novo álbum de estúdio, Borderland, lançado em 26 de setembro de 2025. A banda finlandesa, formada em 1990, construiu ao longo das décadas uma identidade única, combinando peso, melodia e elementos progressivos, sempre com forte inspiração na mitologia e na cultura de seu país. Neste trabalho, o grupo mantém a força da atual formação, liderada por Tomi Joutsen — dono de uma das vozes mais bonitas do metal mundial, sem dúvida — e reafirma por que é um dos nomes mais respeitados do gênero.
Além da música, Borderland já impressiona pela parte visual. A capa, criada por Marald van Haasteren, é — na minha opinião — a mais bonita de toda a discografia do Amorphis, conectando-se perfeitamente ao universo sonoro do álbum e tornando a experiência ainda mais marcante.
O disco abre com The Circle, estabelecendo desde o início uma atmosfera poderosa, com riffs fortes e marcantes que se misturam à melodia característica da banda, preparando o ouvinte para o universo de Borderland. Em seguida, Bones se mostra como a melhor faixa do álbum, lançada previamente como single. O refrão é extremamente cativante e remete ao clássico Eclipse, e o equilíbrio entre vocais guturais e limpos de Joutsen cria momentos de tensão e melodia que funcionam perfeitamente, tornando a faixa meu ponto alto do álbum.
Dancing Shadow traz uma sensação agradável e envolvente, com teclados e guitarras em perfeita harmonia, enquanto os vocais impecáveis reforçam a atmosfera marcante do disco. Fog to Fog mantém o nível, oferecendo uma música mais envolvente que prende ainda mais a atenção do ouvinte, mostrando a força de um trabalho muito bem construído e orgânico, destacando-se ao lado de Bones. Já The Strange apresenta os teclados de Santeri Kallio em camadas sonoras que enriquecem a faixa sem sobrepor os demais instrumentos, adicionando um toque especial que a torna ainda mais cativante.
Tempest desacelera o álbum, com uma faixa mais contida e carregada de emoção, mas com um solo de guitarra e teclado simplesmente impecável que eleva a música. Mesmo com o ritmo mais tranquilo, o vocal gutural surge em momentos rápidos, criando um contraste interessante. Em Light and Shadow, o disco retoma a intensidade, com teclados excelentes e um refrão cativante que prende a atenção, mostrando novamente o potencial de Borderland. The Lantern segue mantendo a consistência, com riffs marcantes e melodia envolvente, equilibrando todos os instrumentos e vocais de forma harmoniosa.
A faixa que dá nome ao álbum, Borderland, é mais discreta, mas possui um refrão agradável e adiciona variedade ao disco. Embora talvez não se destaque tanto quanto outras faixas, ela ainda contribui para o fluxo e a qualidade geral do álbum. Por fim, Despair encerra o álbum em grande estilo, com uma atmosfera envolvente, riffs fortes e vocais guturais que reforçam a intensidade, deixando uma ótima impressão final.
No geral, Borderland é um álbum sólido, com faixas bem construídas e equilibradas. Cada música tem seu espaço, com momentos de destaque para refrões cativantes, riffs marcantes, vocais impecáveis e teclados que enriquecem a experiência sonora. Para mim, é um disco muito bem encaixado, envolvente do início ao fim, e merece uma nota 9/10.

Amorphis presents their new studio album, Borderland, released on September 26, 2025. The Finnish band, formed in 1990, has built over the decades a unique identity, combining heaviness, melody, and progressive elements, often inspired by Finnish mythology and culture. In this album, the group maintains the strength of its current lineup, led by Tomi Joutsen — who undoubtedly has one of the most beautiful voices in metal — reaffirming why Amorphis remains one of the most respected names in the genre.
Beyond the music, Borderland impresses visually. The artwork, created by Marald van Haasteren, is — in my opinion — the most beautiful of Amorphis’ entire discography, perfectly connecting to the album’s sonic universe and enhancing the overall experience.
The album opens with The Circle, establishing a powerful atmosphere right from the start. Strong, striking guitar riffs blend seamlessly with the band’s signature melodic touch, preparing the listener for the world of Borderland. Next, Bones proves to be the best track on the album, previously released as a single. Its chorus is extremely catchy and somewhat reminiscent of the classic Eclipse (2006). The balance between Tomi Joutsen’s clean and harsh vocals creates moments of tension and melody that work perfectly together, making this track the highlight of Borderland and my personal favorite.
Dancing Shadow offers a very enjoyable listening experience, with keyboards and guitars harmonizing perfectly, while Joutsen’s flawless vocals reinforce the track’s captivating atmosphere. Fog to Fog keeps the high standard, presenting a more engaging track that draws the listener in even further, demonstrating the strength of a carefully constructed and organic work, standing out alongside Bones. In The Strange, Santeri Kallio’s keyboards appear in pleasant layers that enrich the track without overshadowing the other instruments, adding a special touch that makes it especially captivating.
Tempest slows down the pace, delivering a more restrained yet emotionally charged track, highlighted by an impeccable guitar and keyboard solo. Even with a calmer rhythm, the harsh vocals appear in quick bursts, creating an interesting contrast and enhancing the track’s depth. In Light and Shadow, the album regains intensity, with excellent keyboards and a catchy chorus that immediately grabs the listener’s attention, once again showing the potential of Borderland. The Lantern maintains the album’s consistency, featuring striking guitar riffs and a captivating melody, perfectly balancing all instruments and vocals.
The title track, Borderland, is more understated, but it has a pleasant chorus and adds variety to the album. While it may not stand out as much as some other tracks, it still contributes to the overall flow and quality of the record. Finally, Despair closes the album in great style, with an immersive atmosphere, strong riffs, and harsh vocals that emphasize intensity, leaving an excellent final impression.
Overall, Borderland is a solid album, with well-crafted and balanced tracks. Each song has its space, with highlights ranging from catchy choruses and memorable riffs to flawless vocals and keyboards that enrich the listening experience. For me, it is a very well-assembled album, engaging from start to finish, and I would give it a 9/10.
