Entrevista com o finlandês Miku Mertanen da banda Sacred Crucifix e do projeto "For You" (English Below)

Miku Mertanen, nascido em Kuusamo (Finlândia), é o baixista e vocalista da banda Sacred Crucifix, uma banda formada na década de 1980. Miku também é o criador do projeto For You, que contou com a participação do ex-vocalista do Sentenced e Poisonblack, Ville Laihiala.


HL - Miku Mertanen, Primeiramente obrigado pela entrevista, sobre o "Sacred Crucifix", atualmente como estão as atividades da banda?

Miku Mertanen - Claro, meu amigo, é uma honra fazer uma entrevista na Headbanger's Land. Começamos a treinar de forma reativa para alguns shows, por isso sempre estivemos vivos, mas os dez anos seguintes foram lentos com as atividades, por conta das famílias e outras coisas, mas o fogo ainda queima.


HL - "Shallow Grave" foi o último álbum de estúdio da banda, qual foi a repercussão da mídia e dos fãs?

Miku Mertanen - Bem, era como 50/50. Outros fãs e mídia pensaram que era muito técnico, muito longe do "Old School", como somos conhecidos e outros acham que foi bom evoluir desde o primeiro álbum, mas naquela época era o que você ouvia do álbum. Também estamos orgulhosos desse álbum. Sempre há algo que você pode fazer de maneira diferente com sons, músicas, instrumentos e assim por diante, mas é inútil. Naquela época, éramos nós, como mostrado ...


HL - Ao longo de todos esses anos de "Sacred Crucifix", como você analisa a evolução desde a primeira demo até o espetacular "Shallow Grave"?

Miku Mertanen - Evoluir está em nós e estamos refletindo isso através das nossas músicas. Então, naquele momento em que tudo fica gravado na fita, éramos nós naquele momento. Nós nunca pensamos que deveríamos fazer músicas que soem como nossas músicas antigas. No presente o "Sacred Crucifix" está no palco e na fita, o que somos no presente, com sombras do passado.


HL - Sobre o projeto "For You", como surgiu? Existe a possibilidade de lançar novas músicas?

Miku Mertanen - o projeto "For You" foi minha luta pessoal diante do divórcio com a minha ex-esposa. Eu queria contar a ela como me sinto e o que penso nessa música. Basicamente, eu escrevi as letras e depois liguei no meio da noite para meus amigos Ville, Heikki e Janne (também baterista do Sacred Crucifix) que quero fazer uma música para minha esposa na época e, alguns dias depois, estávamos no estúdio, paramos e horas depois foi feito. Foi muito pessoal e ainda é para mim. E eu realmente aprecio meus amigos, que eles se levantaram para este projeto imediatamente e no meio da noite. Essa música não tem nada a ver com a banda, é apenas sobre eu. E fizemos apenas 5 cópias dele. Para nós e para minha ex-esposa. Bem, às vezes eu conversei com o Ville, sobre fazer mais uma música ou duas, mas vamos ver. De qualquer forma, não no futuro próximo.


HL - Falando mais sobre esse projeto espetacular, que lembranças você tem quando foi lançado?
Miku Mertanen - Como eu disse, é tão pessoal para mim, eu apenas coloquei no youtube e nunca tivemos marketing ou algo durante essa música. É só lá.
As pessoas encontram e se reencontram, mas não é fácil. É sempre difícil para mim ouvi-lo, traz lembranças boas e más. Faz muito tempo que eu ouvi.


Headbanger's Land - Quais bandas influenciaram você?
Miku Mertanen - "Sepultura", "Death", "Slayer Hobb's Angel of Death", "Metallica", "Entombed", "Dimmu Borgir"..., Há tantas...


HL - Existe alguma banda brasileira de metal que você ouve com frequência?

Miku Mertanen - Eu escuto "Sepultura" (especialmente os antigos álbuns) toda semana, "Sarcofago" de vez em quando. Acho difícil encontrar novas bandas hoje em dia. Pouco preso com os antigos. Talvez algo a mencionar sobre o Brasil: eu sempre fui um grande fã de Pelé, desde que eu tinha poucos anos, então eu tenho uma tatuagem antiga onde Pelé está vestindo uma camisa de futebol do Sepultura Brasil, heh.


HL - Você está trabalhando em algum novo projeto ou banda?

Miku Mertanen - Eu tenho um projeto de álbum de terror há anos, mas quando eu tiver mais tempo, com certeza será lançado. Existem poucas músicas, que são músicas da trilha sonora de alguns filmes de terror. Coisas muito escuras.

Miku Mertanen, born in Kuusamo (Finland), is the bassist and vocalist of the band Sacred Crucifix, a band formed in the 1980s. Miku is also the creator of the For You project, which was attended by the former singer of Sentenced and Poisonblack, Ville Laihiala.



HL - Miku Mertanen, First thanks for the interview, about Sacred Crucifix, currently how are the band's activities?

Miku Mertanen - Sure my friend, it is an honour to do interview to Headbanger`s Land. We started training reacently for few gigs, so have always been alive, but reacent ten years have been slow with activities, cause the families and stuff. But fire still burns.


HL - "Shallow Grave" was the band's last studio album, what was the repercussion of the media and fans?

Miku Mertanen - Well, it was like 50/50. Other fans and media thought it was too technical, too much away from the old-school, we are known for and others think it was good evolving from the first album. But at that time it was what you hear from the album. We are proud of that album too, anyway. There is always something you could do differently with the sounds, songs, instruments and so on, but is useless to so. At that time, that was us as shown so...


Headbanger's Land - Throughout all these years of Sacred Crucifix, how do you analyze the evolution from the first demo to the spectacular Shallow Grave?

Miku Mertanen - Evolving is in us and we are reflecting it through our music. So at that time when everything is caught on tape, that was us at that time. We have never thought that we should do songs that sounds just like our old songs. Present Sacred Crucifix is on stage and on tape, what we are in present, with shadows from the past.


HL - About project For You, how did it come about? Is there a possibility to release new songs?

Miku Mertanen - For You Project was my personal struggle front of the divorce from my ex-wife. I wanted to tell her how i feel and what i think through that song. Basicly, i did the lyrics and then i called middle of the night to my friends Ville, Heikki and Janne (also Sacred Crucifix drummer) that i want to do a song for my wife and few days later we were in the studio and couple of hours later it was done. It was very personal and it still is for me. And i really apreciate my friends, that they stood up for this project right away and middle of the night. That song has nothing to do with Sacred Crucifix, only me. And we did only 5 copies from it. To us and to my ex-wife.
Well, sometimes i have talked with Ville, that if we possibly do a song or two, but we`ll see. Not in near future anyways.


HL - Talking more about this spectacular project, what memories do you have when it was launched?

Miku Mertanen - As i said, it is so personal for me, i just placed it to youtube and we have never had any marketing or something during that song. It is just there. People find it if they find, but it is not easy.
It is always hard for me to listen to it, it bring up memories, both good and bad. It was long time ago i`ve listened to it.



HL - Which bands influenced you the most?

Miku Mertanen - Sepultura, Death, Slayer, Hobb`s Angel Of Death, Metallica, Entombed, Dimmu Borgir.... There is so many


HL - Is there any Brazilian metal band that you listen to often?

Miku Mertanen - I listen Sepultura (specially old) every week, Sarcofago at time to time. I find it hard to find new bands these days. Bit stuck with the old ones. Maybe a thing to mention about Brasil: I have always been a big fan of Pele, since i was few years old, so i have a old-school tattoo where Pele is wearing Sepultura Brasil football shirt, heh.


HL - Are you working on any new projects or bands?

Miku Mertanen - I have had a Horror-album project on for years, but when i have more time it sure will be released. There are few songs, which are kind of soundtrack songs for a few horror-films. Very dark stuff.
